Last week GCDA had a call from IKEA in Greenwich saying that they were struggling to look after all the plants in the showroom as the store has now been shut since the Government lockdown. GCDA has a great relationship with IKEA – we are their chosen local charitable organisation and have worked together on numerous projects including our shop ‘Made in Greenwich’, our ‘Good Food in Greenwich’ networking events and our Community Meals.
After a quick chat with Sofia from the IKEA community support team, we established that there were some 50-60 plants needing a home! We immediately thought of the Greenwich & Bexley Hospice who support numerous people locally, and who are under immense pressure at the moment. Could a beautiful flower or plant provide patients, staff and volunteers with a little bit of a much-needed joy?
Kate Heaps who runs the hospice – immediately jumped at the chance – mentioning that they also have greenhouses that could take some of the flowers too.
Just a day later – the delivery was arranged and the flowers arrived at the hospice. Much to everyone’s delight.
It’s the little things that can really make a difference.
